Illinois Has Spoken
Characterized by uncertainty and indecision, we’re all getting a little weary of the Republican Primary this election. Yesterday, IVN gave you 3 reasons why, despite the prolonged election season, the Illinois primary matters:
1. Rick Santorum’s Electability
2. Mitt Romney’s Momentum
3. Obama’s stomping ground
So here are the results - Romney wins by a 10%+ margin. Does this make Santorum irrelevant? Will this give Romney the momentum he needs to close the race before the August Convention? And as much as the media wants you to forget anyone else is running against Romney and Santorum, let’s not forget about Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich, both candidates who are very much still in the race.

Leading in the Illinois polls with 41% of the likely Republican vote, Mitt Romney continues to receive criticism for his disconnect with the middle class. How accurate do you think this political cartoon is?

It’s all about the delegates…

“WASHINGTON - Mitt Romney’s victory in Michigan’s primary won’t get him many more delegates than Rick Santorum, if any. It’s even possible Santorum could win most of the state’s delegates.
With 22 of the state’s 30 delegates decided, Romney and Santorum each have 11. Michigan awards most of its delegates based on results in each of its 14 congressional districts — handing out two for winning each district.
Incomplete results in the four remaining congressional districts show Romney and Santorum splitting the final delegates. But that outcome could change as more votes are tallied.
Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were shut out.
Romney won all 29 delegates in Arizona’s primary Tuesday. Overall, Romney leads the race for delegates with 163. Santorum has 83, Gingrich has 32 and Paul has 19.”

Quote of the Day:
“I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute. The idea that the church should have no influence or no involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical of the objectives and vision of our country.” -Rick Santorum, on JFK’s 1960 speech on separation of church and state.

“Let’s make this clear: Gov. Romney may be leading when it comes to the polls and his pocketbook, but premature tallies of his delegates won up to today are greatly exaggerated.
Getting nominated for President is all about delegates – 1144 is the number the potential nominees are fighting for.” -Independent Voter Network
